Job Description
  • Serve on the faculty in the College of Arts & Sciences Writing Program, which offers the sequence of writing seminars through which BU undergraduates satisfy their writing requirements, with primary responsibility for teaching first-year writing seminars for international students.
  • Specialize in teaching English as a second language (TESOL), including teaching a range of first-year writing seminars to international students and helping the program as a whole develop inclusive and excellent pedagogies informed by TESOL research and practice.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Contribute to mentoring initiatives in the writing program.
  • Participate actively in service to program, college, and/or university committees and initiatives, especially those related to student writing, English language acquisition, translingualism, and cross-cultural learning.
  • Engage with developments in TESOL research and maintain a scholarly research agenda.


Required Skills
Must have M.A. degree in TESOL, Second Language Writing, Applied Linguistics, Rhetoric and Composition, or a closely related field.

Must have three years of experience teaching undergraduate writing, including ELL-specific composition and topic-based first-year writing seminars, and have the expertise necessary to teach across the following sequence of BU writing classes: Academic Writing for Multilingual Learners, Critical Literacies for Multilingual Learners, and First-Year Writing. Must have awareness of the cultural and linguistic experiences of multilingual international students and expertise in using equity-oriented pedagogy as demonstrated through past teaching, professional activities, and knowledge expressed in a teaching statement.
