Job Description

Serve on the faculty in the College of Arts & Sciences Writing Program, which offers the sequence of writing seminars through which BU undergraduates satisfy their writing requirements, with primary responsibility for teaching first-year writing seminars for international students.
Specialize in teaching English as a second language (TESOL), including teaching a range of first-year writing seminars to international students and helping the program as a whole develop inclusive and excellent pedagogies informed by TESOL research and practice.
Participate in professional development activities.
Contribute to mentoring initiatives in the writing program.
Participate actively in service to program, college, and/or university committees and initiatives, especially those related to student writing, English language acquisition, translingualism, and cross-cultural learning.
Engage with developments in TESOL research and maintain a scholarly research agenda.

Required Skills
Must have M.A. degree in TESOL, Second Language Writing, Applied Linguistics, Rhetoric and Composition, or a closely related field.

Must have three years of experience teaching undergraduate writing, including ELL-specific composition and topic-based first-year writing seminars, and have the expertise necessary to teach across the following sequence of BU writing classes: Academic Writing for Multilingual Learners, Critical Literacies for Multilingual Learners, and First-Year Writing. Must have awareness of the cultural and linguistic experiences of multilingual international students and expertise in using equity-oriented pedagogy as demonstrated through past teaching, professional activities, and knowledge expressed in a teaching statement.
