BASIC FUNCTION:
Riverside City College is seeking an Automotive Technology Instructor who will carry primary responsibility for lecture, laboratory and/or hybrid instruction in Automotive courses typically taught at the community college level.

The ideal candidate will share RCC's and the department of Applied Technology commitment to educating its racially/ethnically and socioeconomically diverse student population. The college currently enrolls nearly 30,000 students annually, the majority of whom are from racially minoritized populations. 60% of RCC's students are Hispanic, 8% are African-American, 7% are Asian American, 0.3% are Native American, 0.7% are Pacific Islander, 21% are White, and 2% are multiracial. Riverside City College has been designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community.

The successful candidate will be a well-rounded faculty member responsible for instruction in lecture and laboratory classes in all areas of Automotive Technology.

Participation in grant implementation, service learning, or outreach may also be part of the assignment. In addition, the successful candidate may develop and maintain a professional rapport with diverse education, community, and industry partners. Participation in and completion of course and program level assessment is expected. Teaching assignment may include day, evening, on-line, hybrid, and/or off campus classes.

EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree and two years of full-time or equivalent part-time professional experience in the automotive technology industry; OR Associate's degree and six years of full-time or equivalent part-time professional experience in the automotive technology industry; OR the equivalent is required. Master's degree is desired. (All degrees and units used to satisfy minimum qualifications shall be from accredited institutions.)

EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of two years of successful experience teaching automotive technology classes is required. Teaching experience at the college level is preferred. Must have professional automotive technology industry experience.

The ideal candidate will (1) have recent experience working with Latinx/Hispanic, African American, Native American and other racially/ethnically, socioeconomically minoritized students in the classroom; (2) possess an understanding of how historical patterns have shaped the experiences and representation of these students within higher education; especially how real or perceived exclusion can shape patterns of participation and outcomes; (3) demonstrate a willingness to examine and refine instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support various groups of marginalized students; and (4) demonstrate experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the classroom. The candidate will also demonstrate knowledge of the implications of the Hispanic-Serving designation for institutional, departmental, and instructional practices.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about culturally-responsive pedagogical techniques and practices for engaging our diverse student population in addition to having the ability to teach well; create and develop curriculum; work well with others (students, faculty, staff, and administrators); and fulfill the duties of a full-time faculty member in a shared governance environment.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
ASE Master Certification (A1-A8) and G1 required. ASE L1, L3, and CA Smog Instructors license desired.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Fulfill the duties of a full-time instructor, including, but not limited to, holding weekly office hours and completing 24 hours of "flex credit" through various available activities and seminars.
2.Be responsible for instruction. The instructional assignment will include lecture and laboratory classes in automotive technology.
3.Teach courses as assigned based on enrollment management principles and within discipline and department guidelines for course rotation and course scheduling. Assignments are based upon the assumption of workload of forty hours weekly, including but not limited to, conducting classes, class preparation, student evaluations, student learning outcomes assessment, program review, office hours and institutional activities such as participation on college committees, involvement in student activities and other duties per the bargaining unit agreement.
4. Institutional service activities are expected of all faculty members.
5. Expected professional obligations include: participation in discipline/department decision-making processes, Improvement of Instruction, curriculum and program development, student learning outcomes assessment, program review, maintenance of legal documents and adherence to FERPA requirements.
6. Be expected to maintain standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position.
7. Maintain industry expertise in order to assist in keeping the discipline up to date with current educational and licensing standards.
8. Utilize a variety of teaching methods and technologies to keep students motivated and engaged.
9. Collaborate and assist with discipline and program promotion.
10. Provide leadership in program development, developing regional college/industry/governmental agency partnerships, and developing/modifying curriculum in response to education, state, industry, and community need.
11. Participate in the development and/or selection of ancillary materials, instructional equipment, work experience sites, etc. that will enhance the offerings of the discipline.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. Ten-month, tenure-track position.
2. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation, and full-time teaching or equivalent experience with a range from Column C, Step 1 to Column H, Step 6 of the current Faculty Salary Schedule.
3. Medical and dental benefits are provided for the employee and legal dependents.

5. Orientation to college is required as is adherence to Improvement of Instruction policy.
6. Maintaining broad knowledge of the academic or occupational area and design pedagogy related to learning outcomes is expected.
