We highly encourage candidates with specialization in any of the following areas including, but not limited to, the following to apply: teaching, leadership, and/or other aspects of the education of African American, Black, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian American and Pacific Islander, and students from groups historically and currently marginalized in society and schooling systems; justice-centered approaches to teaching, leadership, and school reform; antiracist teaching / assessment / school discipline practices; critical race theory and anti-Black racism, culturally sustaining and revitalizing pedagogy; emancipatory education; or other related fields.
TED is one of the seven departments in the Connie L. Lurie College of Education and is committed to preparing transformative educators through an emancipatory approach across our teaching, scholarship, and service—striving to be community engaged, interdisciplinary, culturally sustaining, and holistic in our teaching, research, and service. We offer multiple and single-subject credential programs combined with the MA in Teaching (MAT) degree. The faculty, students, staff, alumni, and partners of the Connie L. Lurie College of Education are dedicated to creating meaningful, equitable, and inclusive learning experiences for our diverse community. We take an emancipatory stance in our teaching, research, and service activities. In collaboration with our partners across campus and in the community, we strive to make an impact by transforming our schools and shaping our society to become just and democratic. Our Lurie College family includes approximately 55 tenured / tenure-track faculty, 100 lecturers, 20 staff, and 1,800 students across seven different departments. We are looking for colleagues who are dedicated to critically engaging in their teaching and research, who see strength in the diversity of our student community, and who are committed to challenging themselves and the college as we seek to grow and strengthen our work.
San José State University proudly holds both HSI and ANNAPISI status, and commensurate to such commitments, this position offers an unparalleled opportunity for teacher scholars interested in preparing diverse, first-generation college graduates to educate culturally, ethnically, linguistically, and socioeconomically diverse K-12 students in the public schools of the vibrant greater San José area. To that end, the opportunity exists for collaboration with Ethnic Studies faculty in the College of Social Sciences (i.e., African American Studies, Asian American Studies, Chicana / Chicano Studies) and throughout the university to build educator pathways and explore the intersection of Ethnic Studies in K-12 and post-secondary education.
