World Languages and Literatures. Position No. 52256. The Department of World Languages and Literatures in Dedman College at Southern Methodist University seeks a full-time, non- tenure-track lecturer in Spanish beginning fall semester 2024 on a three-year renewable contract. Normal teaching load is typically twelve credit hours per semester. We seek innovative and inclusive educators with demonstrated excellence in teaching a variety of language and culture courses at the university level and training in second language acquisition and pedagogy. The lecturer's primary responsibility will be teaching beginning and intermediate courses.

SMU is a global research university located in the heart of Dallas, one of the country's most vibrant metropolitan areas. The Department of World Languages and Literatures is a dynamic department housing eleven languages and fourteen undergraduate degree programs, and it serves all of SMU's 6000 undergraduates through the university-wide language requirement. The department collaborates with interdisciplinary programs on campus, including International Studies, Human Rights, and Women's and Gender Studies. Our lecturers organize large-scale events like our International Film Festival; participate in Dedman College Interdisciplinary Institute's research clusters; take advantage of the opportunity to live on campus in the residential commons as a Faculty-In-Residence; and teach at SMU's campus in the mountains of Taos, NM.



Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications: an M.A. or equivalent in Spanish; native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English; training in second language acquisition and pedagogy; and experience teaching Spanish at the university level.

Preferred qualifications: Ph.D.
